ABOUT OUR ON-SITE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL TESTING & SAMPLE COLLECTION

Construction material testing is essential for verifying the quality, strength, and performance of materials used in building foundations, earthwork, pavements, and structural systems.

Our field testing services help contractors, engineers, developers, and project owners identify potential material deficiencies, monitor construction quality, and maintain compliance with approved construction documents.

We provide field testing, sample collection, laboratory coordination, and technical reporting throughout the construction process.

Testing methods and services are selected based on project requirements, applicable standards, equipment availability, and personnel qualifications.

Commonly Used For
  • Commercial and residential construction
  • Roadway and infrastructure projects
  • Building foundations and structural systems
  • Earthwork, grading, and utility construction
  • Concrete placement and pavement construction
  • Construction quality assurance and quality control
What Falls Under It

WHAT'S INCLUDED

01

In-Place Soil Compaction Testing

ASTM D6938 / ASTM D1556

Measure in-place soil density and moisture content using nuclear density gauges or other approved methods. Results are compared with laboratory Proctor values to evaluate compliance with specified compaction requirements.

02

Soil and Aggregate Sample Collection

ASTM D75 / ASTM D4220 / Applicable Sampling Standards

Collect representative soil, aggregate, and borrow material samples from construction sites, stockpiles, excavations, and material sources for laboratory testing, classification, and suitability evaluations.

03

Fresh Concrete Field Testing

ASTM C143 / C231 / C173 / C1064

Perform on-site testing of freshly mixed concrete, including slump, air content, and temperature, to evaluate compliance with approved concrete mix designs and project specifications.

04

Concrete Cylinder Sampling and Preparation

ASTM C31 / ASTM C39

Prepare and initially cure concrete strength specimens at construction sites. Transport specimens to the laboratory for curing and compressive strength testing at specified ages, commonly 7 and 28 days.

05

Foundation Subgrade and Bearing Evaluation

Project Geotechnical Recommendations / Applicable Standards

Observe exposed foundation bearing surfaces and subgrade conditions to identify unsuitable materials, disturbed soils, groundwater concerns, and potential deviations from geotechnical recommendations. Coordinate with the Geotechnical Engineer of Record when corrective action is required.

06

Earthwork and Fill Placement Monitoring

ASTM D698 / D1557 / D6938

Monitor fill placement, lift thickness, moisture conditioning, and compaction operations. Perform field density testing and compare results against project-specific compaction criteria.

07

Asphalt Pavement Sampling and Field Testing

ASTM D979 / D2950 / Applicable DOT Standards

Collect asphalt mixture samples and perform applicable field density testing to support verification of pavement material properties, placement quality, and compaction requirements.

08

Masonry Grout and Mortar Sampling

ASTM C1019 / C780

Collect and prepare masonry grout specimens and conduct applicable mortar field evaluations to support laboratory testing and verification of masonry construction quality.

09

Aggregate Base and Pavement Subgrade Testing

ASTM D6938 / Applicable DOT Specifications

Perform field density and moisture testing of aggregate base courses, roadway subgrades, and compacted pavement foundation materials to verify specified compaction requirements.

10

Concrete Core and Existing Material Sampling

ASTM C42 / Applicable Sampling Standards

Coordinate or perform concrete core sampling and collection of existing construction materials, where appropriately equipped, for laboratory evaluation of strength, thickness, and material condition.

11

Field Sample Handling and Transportation

Applicable ASTM Standards

Provide proper sample identification, documentation, handling, initial curing where required, and transportation to the laboratory to help maintain sample integrity and traceability.

12

Field Testing Reports and Quality Documentation

Project Specifications / Applicable Testing Standards

Prepare field testing reports documenting test locations, methods, observations, measurements, results, and specification compliance. Communicate nonconforming results to designated project representatives for evaluation and corrective action.

Methods shown are the governing ASTM / AASHTO standards. If your project specifies a different standard or a state DOT method, tell us and we'll confirm.
